Mechanism of Action

Glutathione directly scavenges hydroxyl radicals and lipid peroxides, acting as a substrate for glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) in Phase II detoxification. It regenerates oxidized ascorbate and alpha-tocopherol, sustaining the broader antioxidant network. The GSH/GSSG redox ratio regulates NF-κB and AP-1 transcription factors, influencing inflammation thresholds and apoptosis decisions at the cellular level.
